Mission Statement
The College of Arts and Sciences Tutoring Program strives to meet the academic needs of undergraduate students by providing a wide range of tutoring services in a variety of courses offered in the College. The goal of the tutoring program is to promote independent and active learning among students and to have a direct and positive effect on improving their academic achievement. Our tutoring program is committed to working closely with the faculty in the academic departments in the College to firmly ground tutoring services within each academic area to support a strong, engaged learning community.
Who We Are
The College of Arts and Sciences Tutoring Program is a newly structured program that was created in an effort to meet the academic needs of the undergraduate students taking Arts and Sciences courses. The central coordinating office for the Tutoring Program is located in the College's Center for Academic Services in 1 Meserve Hall. Tina Kondopoulos, the Senior Associate Director for Tutoring, provides direction for the College's tutoring services and works with a team of graduate and undergraduate student coordinators to support the tutoring efforts in the academic departments. The central tutoring office is the place for students to go when they have difficulty finding the tutorial assistance that they need.
Faculty Involment
The College Peer Tutoring Program works closely with the faculty who teach our courses to ensure that tutorial support is available wherever there is student need. Faculty often recommend tutors, as well as refer students who are in need of tutoring assistance. This partnership between the Peer Tutoring Office and the faculty is essential to our ability to provide the highest quality tutorial assistance to students. Also essential is the student's relationship with their faculty, so we highly encourage students in need of tutorial support to see the instructor of their course before seeking tutoring help.
